Synopsis:
A day-in-the-life of a homeless woman includes a walk
through a neighborhood mobilizing to keep its residents from a similar
fate. Reminded of the severe loss of home and business experienced by the
historically African American Rondo neighborhood when Interstate 94 was
constructed almost sixty years ago, the residents of neighboring Frogtown are
addressing the adverse conditions of foreclosure and displacement head-on
during the construction of another major transportation system – the Central
Corridor Light Rail. More than an expose’, There but for the Grace of
God: responding to the revelation catches people seeing homelessness
and its prevailing conditions, sharing how it makes them feel and causes
them to act.
The project is supported by:
Irrigate - an artist-led creative placemaking initiative spanning the six miles of the Central Corridor Light Rail line in Saint Paul during the years of its construction. Artists collaborate with businesses, organizations and community groups to change the landscape of the corridor with color, art, surprise, creativity and fun. Irrigate is a partnership between the City of Saint Paul, Twin Cities Local Initiatives Support Corporation and Springboard for the Arts.
